The short answer is yes, with some exceptions. All our short term policies include Sasria insurance special risk cover. The exceptions are marine insurance, annual policies and business interruption, where SASRIA insurance needs to be specifically requested. What is this insurance for, and what events are covered?
What Is SASRIA
SASRIA stands for South African Special Risks Insurance Association and this company provides short-term insurance cover for special risk events that are not covered by the broader insurance industry.
SASRIA indemnifies the you, the insured, against loss of or damage to property, directly related to or caused by the following events.
Terrorism or Violence
This is defined as any act (whether on behalf of any organisation, body or person, or group of persons) calculated or directed to overthrow or influence any State or government, or any provincial, local or tribal authority with force, or by means of fear, terrorism or violence.
Politically Aimed Loss or Damages
This event is any act which is calculated or directed to bring about loss or damage in order to further any political aim, objective or cause, or to bring about any social or economic change, or in protest against any State or government, or any provincial, local or tribal authority, or for the purpose of inspiring fear in the public, or any section thereof.
Riots, Strikes, Public Disorder
These events are defined as follows
- any riot, strike or public disorder, or any act or activity which is calculated or directed to bring about riot, strike or public disorder;
- any attempt to perform any act referred to in the clauses above;
- the act of any lawfully established authority in controlling, preventing, suppressing or in any other way dealing with any occurrence referred to in clauses above.
Essentially, SASRIA cover is to protect your assets against damage caused by public disturbance events. As noted earlier it is not included automatically on all sections of a business policy. If you would like a quote for this insurance for relevant sections of your business policy, please contact us to discuss the options available to you.
